Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026
DeisHacks is a student-run social good hackathon at Brandeis University. We collect only what we need to run the event, we never sell your information, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing deishacks@brandeis.edu.
What we collect
- Registration: your first, last and preferred name, email address, how you heard about DeisHacks, any referral code, and when you registered.
- Hacker Hub profile: your school, program level, graduation year, major, whether this is your first hackathon, skills, causes you care about, team status, a short optional bio, and whether you want event news.
- Sign-in: your email address. If you sign in with Google or Discord, that service shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We never see your password.
- Raffle invites: the email addresses of friends you invite from the hub. We send each friend one invitation that names you, keep the address to count your raffle entries, and do not email them again unless they register.
- Feedback: any message you send through the hub's feedback form, and the page you sent it from.
We do not use advertising, tracking cookies or analytics tools. The hub stores your sign-in session and your last-used email in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in on that device.
How we use it
- To run DeisHacks: confirming registrations, sending sign-in links and event updates, and planning the weekend.
- To match hackers into teams when team matching opens.
- To improve the hub and future events, and to report participation in aggregate (for example, how many students attended).
Who can see it
You can see your own registration and profile. DeisHacks organizers can see registrations, profiles and feedback to run the event. If team matching shares any part of your profile with other hackers, we will tell you what is shared before it becomes visible.
We rely on these services to run the site and hub, and they process data on our behalf:
- Supabase stores registrations and profiles and handles sign-in.
- Discord provides Discord sign-in.
- Google provides the registration form, Google sign-in, the event calendar and the email account that sends sign-in links.
- GitHub Pages hosts this website and may log technical data such as IP addresses.
- jsDelivr delivers a code library the hub needs to load.
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with sponsors or nonprofit partners without your permission.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as it is needed to run DeisHacks 2027 and follow up afterward. Email us anytime to have it deleted sooner.
Your choices
- You can update most profile details yourself in the Hacker Hub.
- You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and profile by emailing deishacks@brandeis.edu.
- You can turn off event news in your profile at any time.
Security
Access to the database is limited by row-level security, so signed-in hackers can only read their own records. Sign-in uses single-use email links, Google or Discord, with no passwords stored by DeisHacks. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away if you notice anything wrong.
Who can participate
DeisHacks is open to students aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we will email you before it takes effect.
